You will be able explore the ancient stone ruins and the place where the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha was ensconced during the Yapahuwa era. You will be leaving for Sasseruwa at approximately 1100 hrs.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eAt 1200 hrs you will get to Sasseruwa, where the Ras Vehera Statue is. This lesser known statue is almost as tall as the Aukana Buddha at 36 m tall, though it remains incomplete. However the style of the statue is completely different from the Aukana Buddha. Little is known about who created it and why it was abandoned halfway; though archaeologists have confirmed that it is at least seven centuries old. You will be able to see remains of the image house that the statue originally stood within; and view the ruins of the monastic complex and cave temples around the statue. You will finish your tour of the statue by approximately 1245 hrs and will be retiring for lunch at one of the nearby restaurants. These ancient wells were once part of the Temple City that surrounded Koneswaram, but are now separate due to the lands of the temple being taken over by the city. There are a number of hot well springs in Kinniya; each of which have a different temperature that can be felt at touch. Whilst there, take note of the ruins of the old Shiva Temple nearby that was destroyed during the recent civil wars.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter the hot wells, you will be visiting Thirukoneswaram Temple. While proven historical evidence show that it’s at least 3000 years old; legends speak of it having an age of over 5,000 years. There is also an exciting little rocky path that leads to a secretive cave where you will be able to see the primitive and ancient shrine that the temple started from.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou will be visiting one of the local eateries right after at 1200 hrs to have lunch at your own expense. If you wish to try some of the local flavors, you can ask your guide to take you to an Indian restaurant. Next you will be visiting Fort Frederick, which was constructed by the Portuguese using the stones from the original Koneswaram Temple that they destroyed. Upon visiting, you have a chance to catch sight of the rare grey slender loris, sloth bear or chevrotain. These along with the Sri Lankan sambar deer, Sri Lankan axis deer, and wild boar are among the 24 species of mammals found here. Kaudulla is also believed to be the only national park in Sri Lanka that has albino axis deer, though the only evidence found so far is an orphaned deer calf found in the park. The Sri Lankan elephant movement is a regular annual sight in Kaudulla. They move to Minneriya in the dryer months in search of more water and food. However, they move back from Minneriya to Kaudulla around September which has water even among the driest months.
