Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil is extracted from fresh coconut kernels harvested and organically grown in the tropical island of Sri Lanka. This goes through the cold-pressing process similar to the manufacture of extra virgin coconut oil.
The process of cold-pressing focuses on maintaining and preserving the healthy nutrients that are present in organic coconut oil. In most cases, the conventional methods are used that use copra (which is either sundried or kiln-dried coconut kernels) as a raw material. Disintegrated copra undergoes drying in the dryers at very high temperatures which results in the FFA content (free fatty acids) being at a maximum of 1%, which makes it eligible for human consumption. High heat can result in containing FFA higher than that specified amount, where it will be used for industrial purposes, unlike the cold-pressed oil.
In the extraction of the virgin coconut oil, the copra is now substituted with fresh coconuts which are disintegrated, along with the brown testa (which contributes to its slightly-yellowish tinge), into very small fragments. These undergo drying at very low temperatures in the dryers, which result in the oil containing less than 0.5% of FFA, thus making organic coconut oil an ideal choice for consumption. Cold-pressing ideally is done under 60 degrees or less.
coconut oil can be used for various types of cooking such as shallow and deep-frying and a variety of dishes both local and international can be made. Cold-pressed organic coconut oil has a mild smell and taste of coconut compared to organic extra virgin coconut oil. Cold-pressed organic coconut oil can be used on the skin as a natural, nourishing moisturizer for dry skin for as long as the smell of coconuts does not affect the user. It can also be used on hair to prevent hair fall, dandruff and also to improve the healthy growth of hair.
