Saradiel village is situated 1 km from Uthuwankanda junction in Mawanella. You will be escorted on a guided tour where our guide will walk you through the life and death of the Saradiel. After the experience, visit Ambalama and refresh yourself with a king coconut and a village fruit buffet while you listen to folk poetry. After having lunch (rice & curry, and fruit salad) you’re off on a trek to Bo Waterfall. This is a beautiful waterfall with a mesmerizing rock pool. The experience will end at 3.30 pm, after a brief discussion session complemented by an evening refreshment along with srilankan traditional sweets (Helapa, Walithalapa).
‘Saradiel’ who is also known as the Sri Lankan Robin Hood, was born in 1832 during the British rule in Ceylon. He generously distributed money that he stole from the rich, among the poor and needy. Saradiel had a gang of robbers/companions, just like the western legend, Robin Hood.Today the legend of ‘Saradiel’ has been recreated at the ‘Saradiel Village’ located at the foothills of Uthuwankanda, the rocky mountain which had been his hiding place. A visitor to Saradiel Park can enjoy a guided tour which will take one through the life from childhood to his execution with life-size sculptures bringing to life the important personalities of the time.
