You have to make your way to the Koggala Lake meeting point where our representative will meet you while the boat tour to the Madol Duwa island and mangroves begins exactly at 9.00 am. A paradise for nature lovers and biodiversity experts, the Koggala Lake is surrounded by mangrove swamps, making it home to a diverse set of habitats.
During the boat ride, you can visit the historical Koggala Buddhist Temple, which is one of Sri Lanka's oldest temples. After the visit to the temple, you will be directed to Madol Duwa, which is one of the seven islands that are found scattered in the deep waters of the Koggala Lake. Madol Duwa, which translates to Mangrove Island, is a small but picturesque island where you can immerse yourself in local livelihood. The journey also offers you a glimpse of Bird Island and Cinnamon Island. You can indulge in a traditional lunch, which consists of authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry, for an additional fee when in Cinnamon Island, or simply bring a picnic lunch by yourself and enjoy it while there.
Note: If you are booking the lunch option at Cinnamon Island, you have to pre-order lunch in advance so that we can make arrangements with the locals prior to your visit.
After lunch you will get to interact with the locals who will take you through the process of cinnamon manufacturing, allowing you to enjoy a part of their daily lifestyle. You will be brought back to the meeting point by the end of the boat safari.
