This statue was found at Veheragala monastery in Anuradhapura District. The Buddha is shown in this image in the Virasana posture, seated on a lotus podium, with his hands in the Samadhi Mudra gesture. The robe that the Buddha wore was designed to fit tightly around his body, and it included pleats that were marked by regular linear ridges. The face is rounded, and diamonds are inlaid into the pupils of the half-closed eyes. The head is covered in snail-shell curls and has a slightly elevated usnisha topped with a siraspatha (the flame of knowledge). It appears that a valuable gemstone was formerly set into the siraspatha, as its empty slot bears evidence of it.
